About Varna City
Varna is the largest city along the Bulgarian coast with a population of about 330.000 people. It sprung up in the 6th Century BC as a Greek colony called Odesses, meaning "town upon water". Over the following years Odesses was ruled by the Persians, Thracians, Romans and Slavs. The town was renamed Varna by the Slavs in the 7th century. By the end of the 8th Century the town was part of the Bulgarian kingdom and was an important fortress and until 1386 when Varna was conquered by the Ottomans.
In 1921 it was proclaimed a resort and today is a bustling city steaped in history with Bulgarias most important Black Sea port and it's 2nd largest International Airport.
